Travel Skincare Essentials

For many, summer time equates to travel and outdoor fun.  I don’t know about you, but I love quick weekend getaways. Especially for those of us in Tucson, we love to escape the scorching heat of the desert and enjoy some time by the water. I like to pack light and that means simplifying the skin care products that I take with me.

So, what do you need for an easy and effective travel regimen?
Pack light and choose products that can multitask.

I pack 3 basic products to care for my skin:

1. Cleanser
You need a great cleanser that’s not going to strip your skin of its natural moisture. There’s nothing like air travel to suck the life and moisture from your skin, so you don’t want to add to that by using a harsh and drying cleanser. I love ourPurifying Botanical Washwith its fresh lemony scent.  It removes make-up and grime without dehydrating the skin.

2. Revitalizing Moisturizer
For skin nourishment and revitalization, choose an anti-aging moisturizer with active ingredients like vitamin C or bio peptides. These can double as hydration and skin restoration products to slow the aging process. Pay attention to the type of climate you will be traveling to. If it’s going to be humid you’ll want a lighter, serum-type of moisturizer like ourBio Peptide Rejuvenating  Serum. If you are going somewhere like Phoenix or Las Vegas, where it’s super dry, you may want a little more emollience like ourC-Radiance Moisturizer or our Bio Peptide Lotion.

3. SPF for Protection
If you are going to be enjoying the great outdoors at the beach, hiking or anywhere you love, make sure you use great sun protection.  Sun damage can age you rapidly with collagen breakdown, brown spots, chronic redness, and DNA damage that can lead to skin cancer. Make sure to choose an SPF with zinc oxide for the best protection. A multitasking product that can double as your make-up and a sunblock is always a great travel choice to simplify the number of products needed. ColoreScience Tint du Soleil is an excellent choice, as is Elta MD’s moisturizing sunblock.

Think about the product packaging as well. For a quick and easy trip, make sure you choose TSA approved sizes to carry-on. Also, make sure the bottles won’t leak with air travel. I learned this the hard way when my cleanser leaked all over my clothes with a pump that could not withstand the pressure changes of air travel. Our Mikel Kristi
Travel Collectionhas all your basic needs in a small, convenient bag to pack in your carry-on.

If you are traveling for more than a week, then you’ll definitely want to include an exfoliation product to decrease dead skin cell build up. You can add a travel size of ourVital A Rejuvenating Serumor pack a few of our Rejuvenating Swipes to use every other day on your trip.

Don’t stress about how to carry all your products, enjoy your travel, have fun, and simplify your routine while on vacation. Make sure to get back to your regenerative and restorative routines when you get back home.  Your skin will glow with gratitude.
