Mars vs. Venus Skincare

Mars and Venus Skincare

We hear so much about how different men and women are from one another. From how we process information, to the ability to multitask (or not!), to the defined roles of each gender.  Luckily for us, these differences and generalizations are starting to break down and merge, and skincare is just another avenue where the differences aren’t as large as we think.

All Inclusive Skincare

First and foremost, skincare is not just for women. In my medical aesthetics practice, there is an increasing number of men that come into my clinic, and it’s for the exact same reasons that women do. EVERYONE wants to feel better in their skin, and it's my honor to help people come up with strategies and solutions to do just that.

It doesn’t matter if you are a man, a woman, or anything in between, the health of your skin needs to be tended to on a continual basis. We’re all dealing with the implications from an increasingly toxic world, where we come into contact with a host of damaging properties on a daily basis. This elevated exposure puts the health of our body and skin at risk.

Top Skincare Needs For ALL Genders

Here are the top points to consider regarding what every person needs in quality skincare, NO MATTER WHAT!

  • An increase in cellular turnover via AHA’s, BHA’s, and potent forms of Vitamin A like Retinaldehyde. This helps to amp up your skin exfoliation as it naturally dwindles with age.

  • A boost in collagen production. This is the key to plump skin with a refined texture that is the hallmark of healthy functioning skin. Ingredients like Bio Peptides and Vitamin C help to increase and repair collagen synthesis for radiant, youthful skin..

  •  Last and certainly not least is sun protection. The sun’s harmful rays do great damage to the skin, as well as increase your chances of skin cancer exponentially. Using a high grade vitamin C product in the morning, along with a potent physical sunblock with zinc oxide, is a must for everyone, everyday.

Knowing that these three themes are the entry to resilient, healthy skin, our hope is to offer great skincare solutions for all genders and skin types. In the month of June, (calling all Dads who deserve to put their best face forward!) we are offering a promotion of a 120ML Purifying Wash, a 30ML C-Radiance Moisturizer, and a ELTA-MD sunblock for 20% off the set.

A Pro Tip:
Men who shave their face regularly enjoy a higher level of cell turnover than those who don’t. This leads to healthier, timeless skin in the long haul! For those who don’t shave their face, go into a highly trained medical aesthetics practice for a monthly dermaplane facial to enjoy the benefits of a freshly exfoliated face!

The Skin Type Myth
The Skin Type Myth

by Bold Commerce Collaborator January 20, 2020

Does Skin Type Matter?
In reality, everyone’s skin has the same anatomy, and therefore the same basic needs to keep skin young and healthy.  So, knowing your skin type (oily, dry, or combination) really doesn’t matter when choosing skincare… as long as you meet these needs.
Any skincare product regimen should address these 3 basic needs:

  1. Natural exfoliation
  2. Restoration of collagen
  3. Protection from environmental damage.

Psychological Obstacles To Aesthetic Intervention

by Christy Hall January 13, 2020

I want to bring to light the many stigmas attached to the use of cosmetic intervention as a whole. The idea of beauty in our culture has been warped and misguided by big beauty and fashion marketing for many years, and I am happy that a more inclusive mindset is starting to take hold in our culture that honors everyone’s uniqueness. You can see this in the popularity of tattoos, vibrant hair colors and different body types being embraced and well represented. And cosmetic intervention is no different than the aforementioned choices.

Bioactive Ingredients? What are they and why are they important?

by Christy Hall January 06, 2020

We all want healthy, radiant, youthful skin. Many of us buy excessive amounts of skincare products looking for the magic, only to become disappointed when they don’t see the results we crave.  I’ve been there myself and really it was that dissatisfaction with my own skin that led me into the field of cosmetic dermatology and aesthetics. I was a product whore in my late 20’s and yet my skin was still dry, dull, and discolored. The final straw was when wrinkles started appearing at age 30.  What was I doing wrong? I had talked to a dermatologist, I had read every article in beauty magazines that I could, and I tried every over the counter product I could get my hands on, yet nothing seemed to give me the results I wanted. I did not understand the issue until I started my career in cosmetic dermatology.
